Open Access on The Go
No matter whether you are using iPad, iPhone or both – Open Access helper will help you access > 25 million open access documents, when you hit a paywall.
When you reach a paywalled scientific article, click the share icon in Safari and then select OA Helper from the list of options. An Action Sheet will popup and identify the DOI of the article and find you an Open Access copy, if it exists.
The app does way more – so click below to:
FIND OPEN ACCESS, LEGALLY AND WITH PRIVACY IN MIND
What’s the first thing that comes to mind, when you hear Open Access? Free! No paywalls! That’s right. But it isn’t quite that straight forward, because the path to that free access, is paved with a ton of complicated terminology and a great many different possible access locations.
Open Access Helper is designed to make finding the best Open Access location easy. Whenever my app comes across a DOI, it will query the APIs of unpaywall.org & core.ac.uk to see if an Open Access copy is available elsewhere.
The App is free and Open Source and I have no intention to change that.
When it comes to your privacy, you should not trust just any stranger on the internet! To help you decide for yourself the source code for my apps is available at Github. However, if you have questions, don’t be shy and simply reach out!
While I won’t charge you for using my apps, if you’d want to buy me a cup of tea, I am not going to object…
iPad is my secret power tool, but I “love” iPhone & iPad equally. My app makes Open Access as simple as 1, 2, 3
- Select share in Safari
- Pick OA Helper from the share options
- Wait for the app to find Open Access and click to access
- Enjoy your Open Access article
Please note that this might require a setup the first time you use it. Simple scroll to the very right, select more and activate OA Helper.
